On Thursday the 17th of January the Business Support Unit exhibited at the National Manufacturing and Supply Chain Conference and Exhibition in Citywest. The event is the largest gathering of key decision makers in Irish Manufacturing Supply Chain visited by 6,103 delegates on the day. Laois County Council was 1 of 386 exhibitors at the event where the business support unit promoted the Connect2Laois Brand and Laois as a strategic location for businesses. Connect2Laois is Laois County Councils brand for attracting inward investment by promoting Laois as a business destination through its central location, highly skilled work force and quality of life. These activities are managed and marketed by the business support unit.

In particular the Business Support Unit (BSU) team used the event to raise awareness of the new J17 National Enterprise Park which is currently being constructed. J17 National Enterprise Park is focused on heavy, light and ICT industry, trade warehousing, distribution, logistics and other uses associated with the transport industry. Located directly on the M7/M8 National Motorway Network it enables easy access to Cork, Limerick and Dublin including Dublin Airport and Port within 1 hour. The new National Enterprise Park is proving to be a popular location with Glanbia already investing €130 million to build a new cheese manufacturing facility that will enter production in 2020.

The National Manufacturing and Supply Chain Conference was a huge success for Laois as a number of multinational companies dropped by to find out more about the County and the great business location on offer. A number of Laois businesses and commuters were also present at the event and reiterated how good it was to see the County proactively promoting itself. The Business Support Unit is planning to target other trade shows later in the year.
